An individual who laced treats with tranquilliser and provided them to minors at a summer program in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offences against two young males both nine and 10.
Jon Ruben was detained after eight children and a grown-up fell ill at Stathern Lodge in the summer month.
The senior citizen, from the Nottinghamshire area, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the judicial center on Friday.
Nevertheless, he denied one of the sexual offences he was charged with, which was involving a young boy.
The accused was held in detention ahead of a further hearing on late November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, handling the case, outlined the criminal behavior to the court.
She explained his targets were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer program which he operated.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, the legal counsel said, in which he would access the boys' rooms when they were settling down and request they to ingest treats "rapidly".
She told the court the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She explained the defendant had been able to explain this repeatedly as the minors being "overwrought by enjoyment", until his stepson had suspicions in July 2025.
The legal representative continued: "This year his stepchild had worries about the situation, justifiably.
"They decided to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The legal counsel said items including infant oil, ointment and injection devices were discovered, and his family member notified the law enforcement about his concerns.
She stated Ruben continued to play the "sweet game" with six children that night - that Saturday - and they were all ill the next day.
"The police had not arrived by that point," she continued.
The oversight body, the investigative body, previously told that it was reviewing Leicestershire Police's handling of the events.
Mrs Prior explained the minors were having difficulty walking due to their sickness, so Ruben's stepson notified the authorities again.
She stated the man then engaged in the "treat game" in a area of five minors.
